Plot Against Hunger--Growing Faith

On February 23, 2019, Mark Schnarr participated in a panel discussion during the ROOTING DC Conference at Ron Brown College Preparatory in NE DC.  Puwen Lee, AFAC Plot against Hunger Coordinator, asked several Arlington church and church related groups to represent AFAC and speak about "Growing Faith: Giving Gardens in a Faith-based Setting".

ROOTING DC is an annual event for urban gardeners that aims to provide education about urban food production, gardening, and food equity with the purpose of cultivating the health of our community and environment.  About 1,000 people attended the all-day forum with 90 separate presentations and an information fair with over 50 booths of related organizations including AFAC.

Becky Halbe of Rock Springs United Church of Christ, Dave Smith of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, Susan Agoloni of Marymount University and Mark presented each groups motivation, history, summary of activities, and lessons learned for each garden.  Mark highlighted local missions, community outreach, and member involvement as key factors in CPC's eight years of participation with AFAC.  Click here to view Mark's Powerpoint presentation.
