Blessing Our Commitments
For detailed information about commitment blessing services and the way that we celebrate marriage, please call the church office at 703-527-9513.
In brief: we believe that a service celebrating the gift of love and the commitment of two people to share their lives is first and foremost a worship of the gathered community. Therefore, we ask couples to spend some time with us in worship so that you become part of the community before we gather to celebrate your commitment to one another.
Ordinarily we do not make the sanctuary available for weddings of couples who are not participating in the broader life of the Clarendon community. This does not mean that couples must formally join the church, but rather it is an invitation to be part of a vibrant community. Come and see!
Clarendon Presbyterian Church, a progressive, inclusive and diverse community of faith, seeks to honor each individual as a beloved child of God, understanding that God loves each of us without regard to race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief or any of the numerous other distinctions that human beings use to distinguish one from another.
Celebrating Sacraments
In the Reformed tradition we celebrate two sacraments, Communion and Baptism. Typically we celebrate Communion, or the Lord's Supper, on the first Sunday of each month although we also mark the beginning of the seasons of Advent and Lent by sharing the sacrament.
Both believers and their children are included in God's covenant love. Children of believers are to be baptized without undue delay, but without undue haste. Baptism, whether administered to those who profess their faith or to those presented for Baptism as children, is one and the same sacrament.
