A New Kind of Christian Community in Arlington
Across the DMV—and especially here in Arlington—many people are experiencing deep loneliness, disruption, and longing for connection. At the same time, there is a growing hunger for a Christian community that is LGBTQIA+ affirming, deeply curious about faith and life, and rooted in radical welcome with progressive theology.
Clarendon Presbyterian Church has seen unexpected growth in recent years, particularly among young adults and people new to the Christian faith. Through listening both within and beyond the church, we’ve heard a consistent desire for relational, accessible ways to explore faith outside of Sunday mornings—spaces that include shared meals, honest questions, children and families, and communities not centered on bar culture or long-established church groups.
In response, we are beginning to seed a new outward-focused, sacramental Christian community as a ministry of Clarendon Presbyterian Church. This community will gather around meals, communion, and shared practices of prayer, play, and reflection—meeting each person where they are and inviting them to grow together over time.
Like an aspen grove—distinct trees connected by deep, shared roots—this community is about growing faith together, building belonging, and discovering where God is already at work in our lives and neighborhood. We’re starting small, listening deeply, and trusting that new life can take root.
